The Miami Valley Literacy Council (MVLC) believes in the power of education to transform people's lives. As the primary, volunteer-based literacy provider in our community, it is the mission of MVLC to provide literacy services through one-on-one and small group instruction. By making basic literacy resources available to individuals at the very lowest level of reading ability, we can strengthen individuals and families, build self-sufficiency and improve the quality of life for individuals and their families across our community.
Currently celebrating our 45th anniversary, the Miami Valley Literacy Council was organized in 1964 by a group of churchwomen who realized that many adults in the city of Dayton were unable to read. MVLC now has two locations and five different programs serving adults, families and youth: Adult Basic Education, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), The Learning Club (TLC), LEAF and Learning Links.
