Volunteers are an integral part of MVLC. We offer several ways in which a volunteer can assist MVLC:
-
teach an adult to read
-
teach an adult from another country to speak, read and write English
-
work as a tutor for an elementary school-aged student
The Miami Valley Literacy Council is a committed partner in a national effort to help all people achieve literacy. We strive to increase literacy for adults, children and families; we train and support volunteers in the delivery of services.
We exist to help adults and youth acquire the listening, reading, speaking, writing, mathematics and technology skills they need to survive and thrive in today’s society.
The Miami Valley Literacy Council is committed to providing you with the information, resources and expertise to become a certified volunteer literacy tutor or reading volunteer in our community. Many exciting and diverse volunteer opportunities are now available. You can make a difference through volunteer service as a literacy tutor.

Student Success Story
Saundra Smothers has been a student at MVLC for five years. In that time, she has improved her reading so much she now gives back to MVLC by volunteering her time to answer the phones and take messages. She faithfully attends Phonics Class every Thursday night and works with her tutor, Diane Warden, twice a week. |
