Volunteer Orientation
The first step to becoming a volunteer tutor for a Basic or ESOL student, is to attend a one-hour Volunteer Orientation. This session introduces you to literacy needs in the area as well as the skills and materials needed to become a tutor. Sessions are held at either 11:30 a.m. or 6:00 p.m. at the Downtown Learning Center.
Basic Literacy Tutor Training (BLTT)
After the orientation, those wanting to become a volunteer tutor must attend the Basic Literacy Tutor Training (BLTT). This 12-hour workshop covers the basic skills and techniques required to tutor an adult literacy student. Participants will learn how to teach an adult, review literacy materials, discuss goal setting and much more.
Other Volunteer Opportunties
There are many other volunteer opportunities within MVLC. We have needs for clerical assistance, Board Members, and general maintenance of our building.
